At Brightside Nursery Infant School the history curriculum aims to make full use of resources within the local and wider context enabling children to develop a deep understanding of the rich history in their locality. We intend to use subject specific vocabulary and real-life experiences, including artifacts and trips within the local community and further afield to support this knowledge progression.

In line with the National Curriculum, our aim at Brightside Nursery Infant School is to ensure that all pupils have secure knowledge and understanding of key events and significant individuals who have impacted our lives today. We also strive to ensure that children learn about significant changes, nationally or globally, within their living memory and beyond. Throughout their time at Brightside, the children will build on their previous topics as they move through school. In order for them to discover where these significant people and events fit within a chronological framework, giving them an all-round view of what ‘past’, ‘present’ and ‘future’ means in a real and meaningful way.

At Brightside Nursery Infant School we strive to stimulate the children’s curiosity in history to help them ask questions and develop their enquiring minds, helping them to become lifelong learners.
