Hi, my name is Alex Parker and I have two children who currently attend and have previously attended Brightside School.
After attending several family learning courses, I decided that I wanted to get more involved in the school and help out in any way that I can.
I believe that children are learning all the time and the more parents that are involved in their children’s education the better they will do. I hope that being a parent and a teacher will allow me to add a useful perspective to the governing body.
I have been a resident in Sheffield since 2007 and moved to the Brightside catchment area in 2013 when my eldest daughter started nursery at Brightside NI. I have 3 daughters so I have good experience of working with children. I love academic environments and working with children is my passion.
Previously I have studied English Literature and Education and have Master's Degrees in both from Pakistan. I have worked for both a school and college and have also worked as a TA (volunteer) at primary level as well. I am honoured that I have been given the opportunity of being Parent Governor and I am determined to do whatever is assigned to me, either as part of a group or as an individual for the welfare of school.
I have a daughter who is in School - As an active parent within the school I would like to represent the school formally as a Governor.
At the moment I come into the school through my work role and teach the children the foundations of banking and how banks work.
I also do work externally working with the school garden and will shortly be undertaking some work outside Nursery to help the children.
