Hi, my name is Alex Parker and I have two children at Brightside School.
After attending several family learning courses, I decided that I wanted to get more involved in the school and help out in any way that I can.
I believe that children are learning all the time and the more parents that are involved in their children’s education the better they will do. I hope that being a parent and a teacher will allow me to add a useful perspective to the governing body.
I have been a resident in Sheffield since 2007 and moved to the Brightside catchment area in 2013 when my eldest daughter started nursery at Brightside NI. I have 3 daughters so I have good experience of working with children. I love academic environments and working with children is my passion.
Previously I have studied English Literature and Education and have a Master's Degrees in both from Pakistan. I have worked for both a school and college and have also worked as a TA (volunteer) at primary level as well. I am honoured that I have been given the opportunity of being Parent Governor and I am determined to do whatever is assigned to me, either as part of a group or as an individual for the welfare of school.
Hello, my name is Peter Stockdale and I am a Parent Governor. For the last 15 years I’ve driven past our school almost every day but it wasn’t until I became a dad to my boys that I realised how important it is to our local community. Just like every other parent I want the very best for my children and since they will spend almost as much time at school as they do at home I feel that parents and staff must all work together to give them the best possible start in life.
My mum and dad were teachers and I’ve done some work in schools and colleges so I have some idea of the massive amount of effort that goes into running a modern successful school.
Ours schools are fast becoming small businesses in their own right and with new educational targets and continuing budget cuts it’s even harder to provide the kind of education that every single child deserves. My expertise is in the area of IT and technology and I’ve been involved in both very small and very large businesses. I believe that a parent governor has the special ability to bring a fresh perspective to the workings of the school.
There will always be times when challenging questions must be asked and I’m not afraid to find out why things happen the way they do, to stand up on behalf of others and focus on what is most important.
