Today the pupils at Brightside school celebrated ‘Cultural Diversity Day’ by learning all about Ukraine. In Reception class, the children have been learning to find the country on a map, make flags, learn how to say hello and thank you and looked at some of the food that is traditionally eaten in the Ukraine.  

In Year 1, the children researched about Ukraine and then made some amazing fact posters. We used our art skills from last half term to collage the Ukrainian flag, and we learnt some Ukrainian phrases. We also decorated some biscuits in the Ukrainian flag colours. 

In year 2, the children have been learning that Ukraine is a large producer of wheat. We learned how to crush wheat grains to make flour, wrote instructions and then followed a recipe on how to make bread. We kneaded the dough and plaited it into a traditional shape, baked it and finally tasted it!
