As part of our topic ‘How do I know it’s winter?’ we went on a walk around our school grounds to observe the changes in our environment and to look for signs of winter. Whilst the children were out exploring they were encouraged to think about the wildlife such as, birds and what they could do to help look after them during the cold winter months. The children noticed that there wasn’t much food around for the birds at this time of year and came up with a great idea of making bird feeders to hang in our school garden. The children used junk modelling resources to create feeders and then filled them with bird seed before hanging them outside. Some children took their feeder home to hang in their own garden!
